These meditations on the Sefiroth are intended
to be taken in a logical sequence.
If you have not already done so,
please begin with Malkut.
Yesod: Prepare yourself in the usual way. When you are ready, put yourself into your special place, as you did for the Malkut meditation. Visualise yourself clearly there.
As you did before, find the entrance of the underground passageway and go inside. Follow the spiral staircase, hewn out of the solid rock. Down and down, deeper and deeper into heart of the Earth.
Now you are in the cave of agate at the foot of the stairway. Ahead is the entrance into the larger cavern, the cavern of Malkut.
Sandalphon is here. He speaks: "Have you remembered the token?"
You recall that last time you were here, you gave Sandalphon a gift, and he gave you something in return. You take that thing out and offer it to him. He smiles his thanks, but urges you to keep the token, for your journey ahead.
He leads you to the three doors at the far end of the cave: the fiery red with the image of resurrection; the bright magenta door with the image of the fisherman; and the large, central door of a rich violet colour, surrounded with garlands of flowers and fruit, with young men and women dancing together in their midst.
As you watch, the garlands around the central doorway turns into a circle of flame; and this in turn gives way to the image of a huge snake, eating its own tail. The young people in the middle of the circle continue to dance happily, and they beckon you to join them. Sandalphon, too, urges you forward. You step forward, through the loop formed by the snake, and find yourself in a long tunnel, lit throughout by an all-pervading violet glow.
The young dancers are some distance ahead of you now, but at your side stands an old, white-haired and white-bearded man, wearing a white robe and carrying a scythe. This is not Death, but his close relative, Time. As you watch, the old man is gone, and his place is taken by a young boy, still carrying a scythe. He dances off to join the other revellers.
And you are moved to join them too. Do not walk along the path, do not drift, but run and jump, hop and skip and dance your way along the path in a spirit of happiness and freedom, following the throng ahead of you.
Quite suddenly, the dancers disappear, and you are alone. You find yourself in a small grove, lit by a violet light, just like the tunnel you have just left. On the ground is a golden letter T; you stand at the junction of the upright with the crosspiece. Around you stand four winged creatures: one in the image of a lion, one a bull, one an eagle, and one a man. They watch you, without moving or speaking.
You step forward, out of the grove. The light is subtly different here; it is now a deep purple amethyst colour. You stand in an open space before a tall castle wall, made entirely of amethyst. A huge crescent moon is on the point of setting, just above the wall. Lavender grows to either side of your path. You catch a delicate scent of it, wafted to you on a gentle breeze. In the castle wall ahead of you, there is a portal.
Next to the portal stands an angelic figure, wearing a purple robe. This is Gabriel, in his capacity of the guardian of Yesod. You give him the token, which he gratefully accepts, giving you something else in return. What does he give you? Thank him, and take it with you.
Pass through the portal into the castle. You are in a courtyard, busy with people. There are many buildings on all sides.
This castle is your castle, the foundation of your being. Here are reflected all aspects of your fundamental human nature. You may come here on other occasions and explore it, so learning more about your inner being. Here, within Yesod, is the entire Tree of Life of your inner being, for within each sefirah is contained the Tree of Life in its entirety. Here are stables relating to your inner animal being, here are gardens and workrooms corresponding to your creativity, studies and libraries corresponding to your intellectual understanding, a heart of the castle representing its centre, its point of balance and the perfection of its form. Higher centres representing the spiritual progression you have already committed yourself to undertake, by your action of setting foot on the path to awareness and enlightenment. But these places are for another occasion, this particular journey is to the Yesod of Yesod, the very foundation of this place that is the foundation of your being.
The entrance is in the castle keep, the central tower that stands in the courtyard. A low entrance leads down a few steps, and you find yourself inside a brightly lit cavern, lined with beautiful crystals of pure amethyst. Sit quietly for a moment and contemplate. All worldly needs drop away; all tiredness, all hunger, is gone. All the fundamental desires of your body, if they are not satisfied now, you know they soon will be. These are the proper desires of your animal persona. It is right and proper to satisfy these desires, provided only they are undertaken thoughtfully and with consideration. Eating is beneficial to the wellbeing of your body; gluttony is not. Satisfying all the appetites of the body is beneficial to its wellbeing; profligacy or excess are not. Moderation in all things of the body, enjoyment in all things of the body.
Feel good in your body. Feel good in yourself, rejoice in the foundation of your body, be relaxed and at peace with your body; but be also invigorated and alert. Enjoy your body; enjoy your surroundings.
In front of you, three points of light appear. These grow larger, until you can see them clearly as three doorways.
Ahead and to your left is a doorway of golden, glowing yellow. A bright sun shines above it, sunflowers grow around. A young boy plays with a horse. Ahead and to your right is another violet door, lit by the tiny points of brilliant stars. A beautiful woman stands here, pouring water into a starlit pool. And directly ahead of you is a bright blue door. You see an angelic figure, carefully pouring water from one jar to another, while an archer stands near, ready to fire his golden arrow clear over the rainbow in the sky.
Turn right around now, and ahead of you is a fourth door. You recognise the now familiar violet colour of the World path, by which you arrived. Enter the path again. Pass through the grove, with its silent watchers.
Pass back along the violet tunnel. It is quiet now; the dancers have left.
Pass back through the doorway into the chamber of Malkut, where Sandalphon is waiting for you. Greet him as you pass, then proceed to spiral staircase.
Go back up the staircase and return to your special place.
Be still for a few moments; then, finally, return to objective reality, in the place and the time where you started your meditation. Put your consciousness in the centre of your head, just behind your eyes; and when you are ready, open your eyes.
Take a few hours, or a few days, to absorb the significance of this meditation. Then proceed with Hod.
