Extension planned to Almond Ponds. 2 ft 6 in (760 mm) gauge. Diesel
hauled using historic military locomotives.
Proposed railway from Balloch Central (across road from First
Scotrail Balloch station) to Balloch Pier on Loch Lomond, about 660
yards (600 m). 10¼ in (260 mm) gauge, steam hauled, using equipment
from the former Isle of Mull Railway. Balloch Pier is home to the Maid of the Loch paddle steamer,
currently a static exhibit but planned to return to active service
in 2013.
Cairngorm Ski Area, near Aviemore. Coire Cas (car park) to
Ptarmigan: 1¼ miles (2 km), with a rise of 1486 feet (453m).
Broad gauge (2000mm) funicular. No access to the mountain from the
Ptarmigan station (except for winter skiers), but in summer walkers
may enter the station and buy a ticket to ride down the funicular.
Leadhills to Glengonnar: about ¾ mile (1.1 km). Extension
proposed to Wanlockhead, a further ¾ mile (1.1 km). 2 ft (610 mm)
gauge. Diesel hauled, with a steam locomotive in the course of
restoration.
Milton of Crathes. Line about ¼ mile (0.4 km) in length. Eventual
extension proposed to Banchory, a total distance of about 3 miles
(4.8km). Standard gauge. Diesel hauled.
Aviemore (First ScotRail station) to Broomhill: about 9½ miles
(15.5 km). Proposed extension to Grantown on Spey, a total distance
of 12¾ miles (20.5 km). Standard gauge. Steam and diesel hauled and
diesel railcars. Dining trains operate at certain times.
