• BNSF, Union Pacific and Ferromex propose to build a new cross-border rail link between Santa Teresa and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua

Regional & Local Railways

• Arizona Eastern Railroad Lordsburg (interchange with Union Pacific) via Thomson AZ to Clifton AZ (interchange with Freeport-McMoRan); about 68 miles (109 km). Trackage rights over Union Pacific between Lordsburg and Bowie AZ link to another line wholly within AZ.
• Escalante Western Railway Lee Ranch Mine to Escalante Generating Station. Most of the route consists of trackage rights over BNSF, but although there is physical connection there is no interchange of traffic between the two railways. Owned by Western Fuels Association (Website contains little information relating to the railway)
• Navajo Mine Railroad Navajo Mine to Four Corners Power Plant, west of Farmington. Electrified standard gauge line about 14 miles (22 km) in length, dedicated to coal transport and having no physical connection with any other railway. Owned by New Mexico Coal (Website contains no information relating to the railway)
• Santa Fe Southern Railroad Lamy (interchange with BNSF) to Santa Fe, about 18 miles (29 km). Also operates tourist and mixed (passenger and freight) trains.
• Southwestern Railroad two divisions:
  • Carlsbad Division Clovis (interchange with BNSF) via Roswell (branch to industrial estate) and Carlsbad (branches to various potash mines) to Loving (further mine branches); total length of line about 226 miles (364 km)
  • Whitewater Division Rincon (interchange with BNSF) via Whitewater (branch to Tyrone) and San Jose (branch to Santa Rita) to Fierro; total length of line about 121 miles (195 km)
• Texas New Mexico Railroad Monahans TX via Cheyenne TX to Lovington, about 104 miles (168 km). No direct connection with any other railway in NM
