Car near the summit of the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway
- Chattanooga Choo Choo
has a historic tram (trolley) in the grounds of the hotel complex
which gave rides in recent years, but it is not clear whether this is
still operating (Website contains no details of ride)
- Dollywood Express 3 ft (914 mm) gauge steam hauled
railway some 5 miles (8 km) in length in the Dollywood Theme Park,
Pigeon Forge. Operates whenever the park is open, that is most days
from April to December.
- East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad
3 ft (914 mm) gauge railway some 2½ miles (4 km) in length in the Doe
River Gorge, near Elizabethton. Diesel or battery electric hauled. The
trains run mainly in conjunction with Adventure Quest activities in the
Gorge, but occasional public runs and private charters are available.
- Lookout Mountain Incline Railway Funicular (cable
railway) linking Chattanooga to the summit of Lookout Mountain.
Operates daily throughout the year except Christmas Day and
- Memphis Trolleys historic trams (trolleys) on
3 routes in downtown Memphis. Services suspended since 2014 but
reopening planned. Note that the replacement “trolley buses” are diesel
buses operating on the trolley route, and not buses powered from the
electric overhead as the description would imply.
- Mid South Live Steamers 7½ in (190 mm) gauge
miniature railway over 2 miles (3 km) in length, located in Maury
County Park, Columbia. Steam or diesel hauled. Open to the public
on a few days in May, June, September and October.
- Mud Island Monorail suspended monorail connecting
downtown Memphis to the Mud Island River Park. Operates Tuesdays to
Sundays, April to October.
- Tennessee Central
Railway Museum various trips from Nashville on the tracks of
Nashville & Eastern, the longest being Nashville to Monterey,
about 108 miles (174 km). Standard gauge, diesel hauled. Operates
typically one or two Saturdays each month. The initial 32 mile (51 km)
section from Nashville to Lebanon is also served by Music City Star commuter trains

- Chattanooga (Railway Museum) to Chickamauga on the tracks of the
Chattooga & Chickamauga Railway, which are reached via the
Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum's own tracks and those of the East
Chattanooga Belt Railway. Standard gauge, diesel hauled. Operates
Saturdays, late May to early October. Dining facilities are available
- Short trips from Chattanooga to East Chattanooga, about 3 miles
(5 km). Steam or diesel hauled. Operates weekends throughout the year
and most weekdays from May to October. Dining trains operate at certain
- Cambria, near Etowah, to Copperhill, about 47 miles (75 km).
Standard gauge, diesel hauled. Operates typically 2 Saturdays each
month from May to November. Short trips from Cambria to The Loop,
near Farmer (about 25 miles, 40 km) operate most weekends during
the same period when the longer service is not operating, also some
Fridays in summer.
Rivers Rambler Knoxville to Holston River, about 5½ miles (9 km)
on the tracks of Knoxville & Holston River. Standard gauge, steam
or diesel hauled. Operates most Saturdays and some Sundays, late April
to October and in December, also by private charter.
