meet at Spruce during an enthusiast weekend in 2000

- Joy Line Railroad 16 in (406 mm) gauge miniature
railway, ½ mile (0.8 km) in length, at the Harpers Ferry Toy Train Museum.
Operates weekends from April to October.
- Locust Heights & Western Railroad ¾ mile (1.2 km),
3ft (914 mm) gauge line near Clarksburg, with a recreation of a historical
logging train hauled by a replica steam tram locomotive. Operates
Wednesday evenings from June to October.
- Mountain Rail
West Virginia handle bookings and schedule enquiries for several
railways, as well as other attractions such as camping cabooses:
Except as shown above, services operate weekends and most weekdays
(although not necessarily identical days) from May to October
(Some pages of website have unsolicited audio)
- Cass Scenic Railroad Cass to Bald Knob, about 11 miles
(18 km). Standard gauge, steeply graded line with switchbacks,
usually steam hauled using geared former logging locomotives.
Shorter journeys from Cass to Whitaker (about 4 miles, 6 km) also
- Cheat Mountain Salamander Elkins to Spruce, about 64 miles
(103 km) on the lines of West Virginia Central. Standard gauge,
diesel hauled. Passengers may board at Cheat Bridge for a shorter
journey. Occasional journeys travel beyong Spruce to Big Cut.
- Durbin Rocket Durbin to Piney Island, about 5 miles (8 km).
Standard gauge, steam hauled.
- Mountain Explorer Dinner Train Elkins to Cheat Bridge on
the line of West Virginia Central. Fully inclusive dining train,
operates on a few evenings each month from May to October.
- New Tygart Flyer Elkins to Cheat Falls, about 23 miles
(37 km) on the lines of West Virginia Central.
- Polar Express short journeys from Elkins on the lines of
West Virginia Central. Operates Fridays to Sundays, November to
- Wild Heart of West Virginia Cass Scenic Railroad from
Cass to Old Spruce, then Cheat Salamander from Old Spruce to Elkins,
returning via the same route the following day; alternatively starting
at Elkins and returning from Cass the following day.
- New River
Train excursions offered in modern or heritage Amtrak equipment
on main lines from Huntington. The routes used are also covered by
regular Amtrak services.
Eagle Scenic Railroad Wappocomo, near Romney, to Petersburg on
the lines of South Branch Valley Railroad. Standard gauge, diesel
hauled. Trains serving the whole line operate typically one Saturday
each month from May to October. Short journeys from Romney operate most
Saturdays and some Sundays during the same period, and from Petersburg
most weekends in October.
