Fun with Rocks

Rocks & Crystals Home Glyn Williams' Home

Rocks are fun! Just because they have a lot of serious uses, we can still love them and have fun with them. In the banner you can see my cyberpet rocks, Beryl and Jasper.

It seems almost traditional for rock lists to have a teaser somewhere in them: Melody has a listing for Leaverite, for example, and even the apparently very serious Webmineral database has an entry for Dilithium!

Our contribution is Teddite: our bear Ted wanted a rock named after him (after all, he pointed out, there is one called Williamsite which must be named after us). We chose Orange Calcite, because it looks like a lovely piece of solidified honey, just what a bear would like. We did think of calling it Bearite, but we thought it would get confused with Bearsite which is quite a nasty poisonous rock you probably wouldn't want in your collection (BEryllium ARSenate, OK?). Actually, Bearsite confused us when we tried to search for it on the 'net: our search engine kept coming up with all these SITES about BEARS! So, in future, Orange Calcite will always be known as Teddite - at least in our house!

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory introduced another pet rock to our world.

The Story of a Little Rock on Mars This is Little Rock; he is a Martian rock. Read his story - and an update.
