Just off the A6, about 2.5km northwest of Bakewell.
BUS: Every Day: At least 1 service per hour from Bakewell
and Buxton; hourly from Derby and Nottingham; every 2 hours from Manchester
and Tideswell (with some journeys extending to Castleton); 3 services
per day from Sheffield.
CAR: there is limited on street parking. The village car park
is very small, but is supplemented at busy times by parking on the adjacent
field.
WELL DRESSINGS: six:
- the Top Pump Well, near
car park entrance in the centre of Buxton Road at its junction with Fennel
Street
- the Children's Well, on
the footpath that links Buxton Road, a few metres east of the first well,
with Fennel Street, next to a shop
- the Sheepwash Well, at
the corner of Church Street, near Sheepwash Bridge
- the Church Street Well, further along Church Street,
set into a wall on the south side of the road
- the Greaves Lane Well,
on the east side of Greaves Lane (the road leading to Monsal Head),
a short distance from its junction with Church Street
- the Little Well,
further up Greaves Lane, opposite the junction with Hill Cross
From the Little Well, you can take
the footpath leading off Hill Cross back to the car park entrance, so making
a circular tour of the village.
WELLS IN THE MAKING: the dressings are made during the course
of the preceding week at various venues in the village, follow the signs.
