Just off the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton road, north of Fenny Bentley.
BUS: Mondays to Saturdays: roughly every 2 hours
from Buxton and Ashbourne. An additional 2 hourly service from
Buxton (via Hartington) and Ashbourne calls at Tissington Gates.
Sundays: 3 services per day from Buxton, Hartington and
Ashbourne.
CYCLE: the Tissington Trail passes the village. There are several
cycle hire centres on the Trail, including one at Mappleton Lane, near
Ashbourne.
CAR: follow the signs from the main road. During the Well Dressings,
a one way system operates in the village, and there is no parking on the
roads (except for disabled). The signs direct you into a large field which
acts as a convenient car park (there is a small charge) from where you
can walk around the village in comfort.
WELL DRESSINGS: seven or more:
- 5 of these (Hand's Well, the Children's Well, Hall Well, Yew Tree Well
and Town Well) are found by following the road round through the village from the car park.
- to reach the 6th well: as you face the Town Well (opposite the duck pond)
take the small footpath that runs along the front of the houses to your left.
On reaching the road at the far end, turn left. A little way up the road on your right,
you will find the Coffin Well in the garden of a house.
- a 7th, small, dressing outside the Village Hall, near the Town Well.
- several very small dressings in the garden of a cottage a little to
the right of the Children's Well.
- a small dressing outside Town Head Farm, at the side of the road
just below the exit from the car parking field. This was a new
dressing for 2008.
WELLS IN THE MAKING: the dressings are over the course of the
previous few days, follow the signs posted in the village.
