gauge. Diesel hauled using historic military locomotive. Admission
fee to the centre is payable in addition to train fare. Operates
weekends and some weekdays, Easter to September.
In the grounds of Ayton Castle, near Eyemouth. About
550 yards (500 m), 10¼ in (260 mm) gauge, diesel hauled.
Operates in conjunction with special events at the castle, or
by private charter.
Whitrope, near Hawick. Line about ¼ mile (0.4 km) in length.
Standard gauge. Diesel hauled or diesel railcar. Operates
typically one Saturday each month, May to October.
Cairngorm Ski Area, near Aviemore. Coire Cas (car park) to
Ptarmigan: 1¼ miles (2 km), with a rise of 1486 feet (453m).
Broad gauge (2000mm) funicular. No access to the mountain from the
Ptarmigan station (except for guided tours and winter skiers), but in
summer walkers may enter the station and buy a ticket to ride down the
funicular.
Brechin to Bridge of Dun: 4 miles (6.4 km). Standard gauge.
Steam and diesel hauled. Murder Mystery evenings and other special
events take place on certain dates. Operates most weekends, late
May to early September.
Clyde Valley Family Park, Crossford, near Carluke. 2 ft (610 mm)

in length. Standard gauge, steam or diesel hauled. Operates
typically one Sunday each month, April to October.

electric hauled. Possible steam haulage in the future.
The Scottish Deer Centre, near Cupar. 10¼ in (260 mm)
gauge miniature railway about 230 yards (250 m) in length. Diesel
hauled using a steam outline locomotive. Admission fee to the centre
is payable. Operates most days throughout the year (Website

in length. Diesel hauled with steam outline locomotive.

Project to reopen all or part of the line from Invergarry
to Fort Augustus. Standard gauge. Has a short stretch of line from
Invergarry station on which trains are occasionally operated,
but is not currently offering rides to the public.
Keith (Town station, about ¾ mile (1.2 km) from ScotRail
station) to Dufftown: 10¼ miles (16.3 km). Standard gauge,
diesel railcar. With a few exceptions, operates Fridays to
Sundays, mid April to October.
near Dunfermline has a short standard gauge line offering
brake van rides hauled by a diesel locomotive, and a short
2 ft (610 mm) gauge line offering rides in an open sided
carriage usually hauled by a steam locomotive. Operates
Sundays, April to early October.
Leadhills to Glengonnar: about ¾ mile (1.1 km). Extension
proposed to Wanlockhead, a further ¾ mile (1.1 km). 2 ft (610 mm)
gauge. Diesel hauled. Operates Sundays, Easter to September, and
a few other day throughout the year.
Whin Park, Inverness. Line about 950 yards (870 m) in length.
7¼ in (184 mm) gauge, steam or diesel hauled. Operates weekends and
school holidays, Easter to late October.
Barshaw Park, Paisley. Line about ¼ mile (400 m) in length.

Craigtoun Country Park, near St Andrews. About 400 yards (366m)

Milton of Crathes to West Lodge, about 1½ miles (2.4 km).
Extension proposed to Banchory, a further 1½ miles (2.4 km).
Standard gauge. Usually steam hauled. Operates on a few days
each year, mainly summer Sundays.
East Links Family Park, near Dunbar. 2 ft (610 mm) gauge line
over ½ mile (almost 1 km) in length circling the park. Diesel hauled
with steam outline locomotives. Admission fee to the Park is payable,
advance booking required. Open most days throughout the year.
George Allen Park, Strathaven. Line about 500 yards (450 m)
in length. 5 in (127 mm) / 7¼ in (184 mm) gauge, usually steam
hauled. Operates weekends, March to September.
Aviemore (ScotRail station) to Broomhill: about 9½ miles
(15.5 km). Proposed extension to Grantown on Spey, a total distance
of 12¾ miles (20.5 km). Standard gauge. Steam and diesel hauled and
diesel railcars. Dining trains operate at certain times.
Operates 4 to 6 days each week, February to October, weekends
late November to mid December.
Coatbridge. The museum site includes a ¼ mile (0.4 km) standard
gauge electric tramway. The tramway has not operated for several
years, but it is believed that services may resume in 2026.
Museum open daily throughout the year.
Methven, near Perth. Lines totalling over 1¼ miles (2 km)
in length. 5 in (127 mm) / 7¼ in (184 mm) gauge. Steam, diesel,
or battery electric hauled. Club railway open to the public
typically 4 days each year.
Vogrie Country Park, Gorebridge, Midlothian. Line about 710
yards (650 m) in length. 3½ in (89 mm) / 5 in (127 mm) / 7¼ in
(184 mm) gauge, steam, petrol or battery electric hauled.
