The island of Antigua once had a network of 2ft 6in (762mm) gauge lines, some 80km in extent, serving the sugar cane industry. The railway was operational from around 1903 until 1971. One of its steam locomotives, Joan, was moved to the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway in mid Wales. Since this photograph was taken it has been restored to working order and repainted in maroon.
