Around 1907, the Société Coloniales Bambao established a plantation on the island of Anjouan, growing ylang-ylang for the French perfume industry. The plantation was served by a 600mm gauge railway. Although the Société expanded its plantations over the years on Anjouan and other islands of the Comoros, there is no record of any other railway. It is not known when the original railway fell out of use.
