Cabo Verde

The disused salt pans at Santa Maria, on the island of Sal, now a protected landscape.
These formerly produced salt for export, which would have travelled via the harbour railway.

There was once a short harbour railway in the port of Santa Maria on the island of Sal, carrying salt for export. It ceased operating in the early part of the 20th century. There are no other railways in this island group off the coast of West Africa.
