Guinea Bissau

The Cathedral in Bissau, unusual in that one of the towers acts as a lighthouse for the port.

The port of Bissau had an internal railway network, which operated from the late 19th century until the 1940s.

In 1998 an agreement was reached for the construction of a rail connection with neighbouring Guinea. The project was shelved with the outbreak of civil war in the country and neve revived.

In 2024, Russian aluminium company Rusal proposed the construction of a new port at Buba which would be connected by rail to mining operations in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
