• Bahnpark Augsburg museum offering various excursions on the national network in the Augsburg area. Steam or historic electric hauled. There is also a 184mm (7¼ inch) gauge minature railway at the museum, usually steam hauled, operates Sundays and public holidays, May to early November (Site in German)
• Bayerisches Eisenbahnmuseum offers various steam or diesel hauled excursions on the national network from Nördlingen
• Bayerischen Localbahn Verein offers occasional excursions hauled by historic electric locomotve in the München area (Site in German)
• Chiemgauer Lokalbahn Obing to Bad Endorf, 18.5km. Standard gauge, diesel hauled or historic diesel railbus. Operates Sundays and public holidays, May to October (Site in German)
• Chiemseebahn Prien (station) to the harbour of Stock on the Chiemsee, connecting with boat services. 1.8km, metre gauge steam tramway. Operates weekends and public holidays throughout the year.
• Dampfbahn Fränkische Schweiz Ebermannstadt to Behringersmühle. 15.9km, standard gauge, steam or diesel hauled. Operates Sundays, public holidays and a few other days, April to October and in December (Site in German)
• Ilztalbahn Passau to Freyung, 49.5km. Standard gauge, usually diesel railcar with occasional journeys by historic diesel railbuses. Operates weekends and public holidays mid May to mid October.
• Lokalbahn Schierling – Langquaid Eggmühl to Langquaid. 10.3km, standard gauge, diesel hauled. Operates on a few days each year (Site in German)
• Mainschleifenbahn Seligenstadt to Volkach-Astheim, 9.8km, standard gauge, historic diesel railbus. Operates on a few days between May and October (Site in German)
• Museum Torfbahnhof in Rottau offers rides from the museum on a section of former peat carrying railway built to the unusual gauge of 880mm. Diesel hauled using original locomotives from peat workings. Operates weekends, public holidays, and some Wednesdays, late April to early November (Site in German)
• Rhön-Zügle Fladungen to Mellrichstadt. 18.4km, standard gauge, steam or diesel hauled. Operates several days each month, May to October (Site in German)
• Rodachtalbahn Nordhalben to Steinwiesen. 11km, standard gauge, historic diesel railcar. Operates most Sundays and public holidays, April to October (Site in German)
• Salzbergwerk Berchtesgaden visitors are carried into and out of the salt mine on an open carriage train hauled by a small electric locomotive. The line form a loop of 1.4km, 560mm gauge. A short funicular railway forms part of the outward route for visitors. Operates daily throughout the year, advance booking recommended
• Wachtl-Bahn project to reinstate the Wachtl Express tourist passenger service which ran on the 7km, 900mm gauge electric railway between Kiefersfelden and Wachtl (Austria) prior to the cessation of freight traffic on the line in 2016 (Site in German)
• Wanderbahn im Regental Viechtach to Gotteszell, near the Czech border. 25 km, standard gauge, historic diesel railcar. Operates one or more days each month, April to October and in December (Site in German)
• Wendelsteinbahn Waching, near Brannenburg, to Wendelstein. 7.6km with a rise of 1215m. Metre gauge rack railway. Electric railcars. Operates daily throughout the year (Site in German)
• Zugspitze Zahnradbahn Garmisch-Partenkirken to Zugspitzplatt, on the shoulder of the highest mountain in Germany. 19km, 1004mm gauge rack railway with a rise of 1880m. Electric railcars. Operates daily throughout the year except for a maintenance period in May (Site in German and English, somewhat difficult to navigate)

Hand or pedal powered rail trolleys available for hire

• Pošumavská jižní dráha claimed to be the shortest international railway in the world, the 105m line from Nové Údolí, Czechia, crosses a stream to enter Germany for a short distance above the village of Haidmühle. Pedal powered trolleys or a replica steam locomotive pushed by hand. Also offers occasional excursions hauled by historic diesel locomotive on the main line (Site in Czech)
