The former Portuguese territory of Macau is now a Special Administrative Region of China.
An urban transit system opened in 2019, described as a light rail metro but actually using rubber tyred people mover technology. The initial 9km section connects the Taipa Ferry Terminal with Oceano, serving residential and tourist areas along the route. A 2km branch is under construction from the Lotus Checkpoint to Hengqin Island, administratively part of mainland China, where it will connect with the Zhuhai Airport Intercity Railway of China Railway. Other new lines are planned.
There are no other railways in Macau.
