The first and only railway in the small landlocked country of San Marino opened in 1932, linking the city of San Marino with the main line railway station at Rimini, Italy, a distance of about 20km. It was an electrically powered railway, built to a gauge of 950mm. Although quite successful at first, the line was badly damaged during World War II and never reopened. Various traces remain, including several tunnels that are now used as pedestrian routes.
