There are currently no railways in Rwanda. In 2018, feasibility studies were completed for a new standard (1435mm) gauge line to connect the capital, Kigali, with the Tanzanian Railways network at Isaka, Tanzania. 139km of the new line would lie in Rwanda. Construction was expected to start the same year, but has been delayed by lack of progress on the Tanzanian section of the line.
