Names in French and Corsican

Names referred to here as French are those used for official purposes and by the majority francophone population, even though in most instances the names are not of French origin; in particular, many are Italian, the island having been part of the Republic of Genoa until the 18th century. Names in the Corsican language now commonly appear on road signs, and increasingly on railway stations, together with the French names.

This table reflects the situation in 2017. Where only a single name is shown, that is the name displayed at stations. In many instances this reflects the fact that the French and Corsican spellings are identical. However, it may also mean that there is no recognized Corsican equivalent for the name, or simply that the signage has not been updated to include the Corsican version.
